A wise man once said, ”Try not. Do or do not, there is no try.” My bucket list had only two entries in late 2012. The first item was to skydive tandem style, which I did the very next week. The second item on my bucket list was to be an actor. I didn’t want to be an 80-year-old man sucking through a straw and saying, “I should’ve done that.”
How Jimmy Q Started Acting
My first feature role was a crew member who is taken hostage by Somali pirates. The make-up made my face look like I had been beat up and sunburned, which was really cool. The scene takes place in the galley of a real US Navy cargo ship from the 1950s. The director wanted me to act as if I had been hit in the stomach with the butt of an AK-47 rifle, so I staggered back a little and slowly rose up to a crippled stance with fear in my eyes. This example demonstrates the value of acting out a scene by pretending to be in that situation.
My first experience with playing a principal role was in ID’s Unusual Suspect where I was a Tanya husband. The director wanted me to display my love for an actress who was playing the part of my wife. We did a slow dance while looking into each other's eyes, as if we were madly in love. We were both trying not to laugh in the first couple of shots, but we eventually got the shot we needed.
Before Acting
My first experience as an entertainer was in background work, which generally involves standing where the director tells you to. The scene took place at 6 am on a Saturday in an old Catholic Church and required us to kneel down and stand back up again repeatedly. Taking direction accurately was essential to prevent us from getting bruised knees.
Highlight Acting Roles
My biggest acting role to date was in "A Man from Reno," where I played a party goer and press reporter. I played Tanya's husband in "Dangerous Fortune," which was an episode of ID's Unusual Suspect series.
Why Cast Jimmy Q
I'm always early for a shoot, sometimes by as much as an hour. I'm easy to work with and enjoy physical activities from running to tandem skydiving. I get the same rush from these activities as I do when I'm on set.
What Sets Him Apart
I have a B.A. in Criminal Justice from California State University, and have also earned my SAG AFTRA. I'm currently taking the class “Hey I Saw Your Commercial” to broaden my experience. I am also listed on IMDB and I plan to continue my acting career. As a wise man once said, “Always in motion is the future.”
